As I wrote here a long time ago, I’ve had a few experiences staying in the hospital.   Giving a birth is not included there.   

Once we get sick and have to stay in the hospital for a certain amount of time, like for more than a week, we feel discouraged and find it difficult to keep positive thinking. 

The last time I got hospitalized was 4 years ago.  It was the most painful experience for me. 

Having recovered, I can now take that experience for meaningful one to me.  When I was young, I took the health for granted.  But after having stayed in the hospital and encountered with several pains both physically and mentally, I know now being healthy is one of the most difficult things to keep.  

That’s why I can’t help appreciating the health right now.

今日は長女が通う小学校の運動会の準備に行ってきました。いよいよ日曜日が運動会です。

運動場で準備をしている先生たちや高学年の児童を見ながら、自分の子供のころのことを思い出しました。

走ることや飛ぶことが大好きだった私は毎年運動会の前になると待ち遠しくて、わくわくしながらその日を待っていたものです。

母は前の日からお弁当の仕込みに忙しく、父は当日早起きして場所取りをしに行ってくれました。

運動会の競技もさることながらお弁当の時間もとっても楽しみでした。おじいちゃん・おばあちゃんも来てくれてお母さんが作ってくれたお弁当の美味しかったこと！そのころ出始めるみかんや栗・なしなども当時はとっても贅沢で。

自分がお弁当を作るようになって親のありがたみがわかります。

明日は気合いを入れてお弁当の仕込みをしようっと！

Today I went to a park near my house with my family.  P.E. festival at my daughter’s elementary school is scheduled to be held on next Sunday.

So we decided to practice relay.  First, I drew a big oval on the ground.  My daughter was the first runner and my 4-years-old son was the second and I was the last runner.  We continued to run for about 10 tracks.  We used a stick of wood as a baton.  It was a lot of fun!

When I was a kid, I used to love track event.  I remember very well that I coundn’t wait P.E. festival every year.

I wish my daughter’s good success at the festival!

絵本のことについて今度は日本語で書きますね。子供が産まれてから絵本に興味を持つようになり気がつけば本棚はいっぱいになっていました。

絵本は私の2人の子供を含めて、英語を教えている生徒さんを見ていると基本的に嫌いな子はいないのではないでしょうか？

子供だけでなく私も自分のために読むことも少なくないです。特に落ち込んでいる時なんかは絶大な力を発揮してくれます。

今日はさっき私の子供たちと一緒にこぐまちゃんシリーズを4冊、リサとガスパールシリーズを3冊読みました。

弟のほうがこぐまちゃんシリーズでお姉ちゃんはリサシリーズです。弟はまだ平仮名は読めませんが覚えているので絵を見て判断し自分の言葉で読んでくれました。

お姉ちゃんは3冊のうち1つを読んでくれました。あと、2冊は英語とフランス語だったので私が読みました。

あ～、なんて幸せなひと時だったことでしょう。

I got a really good lesson from the worship I attended last Sunday. 

The priest introduced us a bible sentence that meant “iron is polished by iron and people are polished by people.”   According to him, our mental growth is acquired by getting contact with other people. 

And what the most important thing here is that we should not be self-centered but we should be humble and regard others as ones that are superior to us.

It seems difficult to think and behave that way.  However the reason why we think it difficult is that we tend to judge others while thinking “Which one is saying an apropriate words, me or the person I’m talking to?”

The priest said that we can never judge other people’s perspectives.  What we should keep in mind is how we behave in front of  others.  How others behave or think don’t matter.

It was a really thoughtful lesson.

I was supposed to go to a lesson for wearing Kimono yesterday.  I’ve wanted to learn how to put on Kimonos by myself for a long time so I go to the lessons on Fridays.  But the lesson was canceled yesterday.   So, I called my friend to go to a movie together.

We watched “Sex and the City”.  I’ve never seen that TV program before.  I felt a huge difference in terms of women’s behavior between the four women appeared in the movie and Japanese married women.  I couldn’t understand why they got mad so easily toward men. 

In some way, it was a really interesting movie.

最近セミナーがあったこともあり、ジャズチャンツに対する私の情熱は再燃しています。CDを聴くだけで楽しくて頭に残るリズムが心地よく何度も何度も聞いています。

いつも朝食の時にBGMとしていろんなジャズチャンツのCDをかけています。子供たちも一緒に聞いているので簡単なものは自然と口ずさむようになっています。長い英文を覚えるのは一苦労だけれどジャズチャンツとして音楽に乗せれば覚えやすくそれにずっと頭に残るのが一番の魅力！

自分が英語に初めて出会ったのは中学1年生だけれど当時はこんなに楽しい教材はなかったなあ。この楽しさを多くの子供たちに伝えていきたい！それが私の目標です。

ここで今更ながら「ジャズチャンツ、ジャズチャンツっていったい何？」と思われる方も多いので私がいつもお世話になっているジャズチャンツユニオンのホームページから引用させていただきます。

１９６９年のある日のことです。先生の耳にふと聞こえてきた人々の何気ない会話
“Gee it’s good to see you. 　You look wonderful” 　”So do you.” と言う言葉が、先生の中で
ジャズ（＊①ラグタイム）のリズムとピタッと合ったのです。これが、ジャズチャンツが産声を上げた瞬間です。
英語の持つリズムが、ラグタイムの底に常に流れる４ビート、それに前後して追いかけるように
重なっていくシンコペーション（＊②）が、話し言葉のリズムそのものだという発見でした。
この指導法を思いつかれたということは、昼間はニューヨーク大学のＥＳＬ教諭として、
また夜はpiano player singerとして活躍しておられた先生だからこそのものだったといえると思います。

I wonder if you ask somebody in America for instance, “who is a Japanese Prime Minister?”, how many people could answer the question.  The former Prime Minister, Yasuo Fukuda, resigned his post all of a sudden about 10 days ago and a presidential election will be held soon.   I don’t think fMr. Fukuda explained the reason much enough to make us understood.   What a shame it is!  He should’t have been elected in the first place.   

Whenever I listen to or read American news regarding Presidential election, I can’t help noticing a big differnece between American politicians and Japanese ones.   We can’t blame only politicians.  It seem to me that  Japanese people’s awareness toward politics is relativily low compared to people in other countries.

I prefer the American system to elect the President.   As far as we can’t participate in the election to choose the Prime Minister, it would be difficult to take a strong interest in politics.

昨日「とことんジャズチャンツセミナー」に参加してきました。いつものようにチェアーの生駒先生、チーフの大江先生に加えてスタッフの井上先生、石丸先生のレクチャーがありました。今回のテーマは数あるジャズチャンツのテキストの中から自分のクラスの教材として選ぶ時の参考になる内容のものでした。

井上先生が取り上げられた”Daddy’s Home”は私の英語クラスの夏の発表会でも取り上げたものなのでとても勉強になりました。先のブログにも書きましたが私はジャズチャンツと出会っってからまだ2年しかたっていませんが、井上先生や石丸先生は10年以上ジャズチャンツに惚れ込んでテキストを研究されています。そういうお二人のプレゼンはいつもとても勉強になります。将来私もこういう先生になりたいなあ、と思えるとても素敵な先生です。

自分自身がJass Chants Certificate コースを修了した今もセミナーに通い続けるのは、ジャズチャンツについてまだまだ勉強したいという気持ちが強いのです。きっと、これでもう終わり！充分勉強した！ということはいつになってもないでしょう。生駒先生ですら、まだまだ勉強の途中です、とおっしゃっていたぐらいです。それだけジャズチャンツの魅力は奥深いということなんでしょうね。

次はいよいよ、グレアム先生とお会いできる「ジャズチャンツミラクル」です。私もグループリーダーとして頑張らないといけません。まだまだ経験の浅い私にこんな大役が回ってきたのはとっても荷が重いですが、生駒先生や大江先生からの「絶対に良い経験になるからがんばりなさい！」という声を信じてチャレンジしてみます。

I like to read picture books to my kids.  Since I gave birth to my daughter, I started to buy picutre books.  Now she is 7 years old and she can read those books by herself but still she loves to get me to read.  

I sometimes go to elementary school to read picutre books to students there.  I enrolled as a volunteer staff for reading books.  I think basically all children love picture books.  Books nurture children’s imagination.  I believe people who have experiences to have read many books by their parents in childhood will never commit a cruel crime in their future life. 

As I teach English to kids, I collect English picture books, too.  I want my students to love books and know a wonderful world of books.  I lend out those books to my students.  Even if they can’t read all the sentences, they like to take a new book back home. 

Not only to my kids and students, but also I read picture books for myself when I’m blue.  They heal my heart.
