英検１級受講クラスのレッスンが始り久しぶりに英字新聞の購読を始めました。

As I’m taking an English class for ‘Eiken’ the first grade, I started to subsciribe to ‘Japan Times’ for the first time in around 20 years. 

実を言うとお恥ずかしながら日本語の新聞ですら毎日読まない日もあるという私なので、朝新聞をしっかり読むという習慣がついていません。

In fact, not everyday I don’t read a newspaper.  I’m ashamed to say that I don’t have a habit to read it everymorning.

仕事をしていた時は読んでいたんだけどなあ~

When I worked, I would read it everyday.

英字新聞は自分が学生の頃、英語の勉強になると思い購読していました。

Regarding an English newspaper, I had subscribed to it when I studied English literature at university.

久し振りということもあり今のところ毎朝新聞が届くのが嬉しくて気になる記事を切り抜いて勉強しファイルに挟んでいっています。

After a long interval, I’m looking forward to reading ‘Japan Times’ every morning.   I prepared a scrapbook.  After I read some articles and looked for new vocabularies in a dictionary, I put the clipped articles into the scrapbook.

前回の続きです。

すいません、今日は日本語だけです。 

モンゴルの遊牧民たちは定住地を持たない、大地も掘り起こしてはいけない、というのは彼らには何かを「所有する」という概念がないのだそうです。自然に対する崇拝の念が強く人間は到底自然にはかなわないのです。本当にそうですよね。

今回来日された２人は馬頭琴とドンブラーの天才的な演奏者です。でも２人とも誰かに教わってそれぞれの楽器を演奏できるようになったわけではありません。自分の父親がひいているのを見て自分で見よう見まねで覚えていったそうです。そのうちに自分で作曲するようになりたくさんの曲を作っていきました。でも楽譜が読めないし書けないので全て自分の脳と体に焼き付けていくという方法です。

モンゴルでは誰かが演奏をし始めるとそれに合わせて周りの人たちが次々に歌を歌うことがあるようで、それも歌詞が決まってるのではなく、自分で即興で詞を作りながら歌うのだそうです。西村さん（今回のコーディネーター）いわく、言葉に対する文化的レベルが高いとのこと。

何かを伝えるときに私たちは記録することが多いですがモンゴルでは「口伝」が多いので聞くほうも常に心して聞きます。それが自分の血となり肉となっていくのでしょう。

２人が作る曲はすべて愛情あふれるものばかりですがその中でもクグルシンさんが作った子供たちに伝える曲というのが特に感動です。自分の子供たちに「私はお前たちのために生きてきた、お母さんもお前達のために生きてきた、お前も大きくなったら人の役に立つ人間になって欲しい」というストレートに心に訴えかける曲です。 

今日も私の息子が行く幼稚園でコンサートがありました。何回聞いても涙が溢れてきて感動の連続・・・本当に、本当に幸せな時間を過ごし感謝の気持ちでいっぱいです。

又、来年会えるのを楽しみにしています。

日本人が馬頭琴と聞いて最初に思い浮かぶのは、絵本「スーホの白い馬」ではないでしょうか。

When Japanese hear of the word Batou-kin,  probably the first thing remind us is the picture book called “Suho’s white horse”.

でも実はモンゴルには白馬はなく、「スーホの白い馬」のお話もモンゴル民話ではあるけれでも、それが中国に渡って中国から日本に渡ってきたお話だということです。  

As a matter of facat, however, there is no white horse in Mongolia and the Mongolian story was handed down orally and tranlated in China and from that Chinese version of the book, “Suho’s white horse” was published in Japan.

後、モンゴルの人々は定住地を持たず「ゲル」という移動式の家で放牧をしながら暮します。

As you know, Mongolian don’t have thier fixed places of residences.  They move to another place while pasturing and put together all the stuff to make a “Gel”, a Mongolian house.

モンゴルの人々は亡くなった後は、ほとんど風葬にするみたいです。

After Mongolian people pass away, aerial sepulture; to put the body on the ground and let it go, is common.

大地を掘ることは禁じられていて、もし少しでも掘り起こすと草が生えてこないからだとのこと。

Digging the earth is prohibited because if you dig a hole, grass can not grow.

当り前のことだけど、国によって考え方も全然違うので海外から訪問されている人たちと話をするのは本当に面白いですよね。

As a matter of course, depend on countries they have differents culture and ways of thinking.  It’s quite fascinating to talk to foreigners, isn’t it?

昨日の続きです。

コンサートの後、自治会館で５時から打ち上げパーティーをしました。

After the concert, we had a dinner party at a community house from 5p.m yesterday.

私が担当した豚汁もおいしく出来上がり４時ごろから「お母さんパワーアップ」のメンバーや馬頭琴奏者のネルグイさんたちが到着しました。

As I told you, I cocked “Ton-jiru” and it tasted good.  At around 4p.m. some members of “Mothers’ Power-up Group” and Nergui who is a Batou-kin Player arrived at the place.

モンゴルから２人の演奏者と書きましたが実はモンゴルから馬頭琴奏者１人、カザフ人のドンブラー奏者１人と、その２人のコーディネーターの方（北海道の大学で講師をされている方）が今回吹田までお見えになりました。

Though I wrote here in my blog that two players from Mongolia came to Japan, to be exact, one Batou-kin player from Mongolia and one Donbler player from Kazakhstan; I don’t know the exact English word for it, another musical instrument, and one Japanese who teaches at university in Hokkaido prefecture came to Suita for the concerts. 

ネルグイさんは２００５年にモンゴルの無形文化財に認定されるほどの実績の持ち主で、もう一人のカザフのクグルシンさんもとても歌の上手な素敵な方です。

Nergui  was approved as a living national treasure in Mongolia in 2005.  And Kugulushin who is the Donbler player mentioned above has a beautiful voice.  

食事をとりながらまず私たちメンバーとその家族で日本の童謡などの歌の披露をしました。その後２人による素晴らしい演奏が続きました。

While eating dinner, our members and their familes sang Japanese nursery songs and after that an exquisite performance by Nergui and Kugulushin was followed.   

１年前のブログにも書きましたが去年家の近くの小学校にネルグイさんたちが来てくれて素晴らしい音色に初めて触れることができました。

As I wrote in an article last year, I was able to listen to the music by “Batou-kin” and “Donbler” for the first time in my life at an elementary school near my house last year.

その時はあまりにも感動し、演奏の間中ずっと涙が止まりませんでした。演奏後私の服の襟の所に水たまりができていた程で最初は自分でも「何だろう、この水は？」と思いまったく気づきませんでした。

At that time, I was so moved by the music that I couldn’t stop crying and I was surprised to find some water on my collar.  I didn’t realize the water at first.  I thought what is this water.

昨日の演奏もその１年前と変わらず感動的で、２人のコーディネーターを務めておられる先生のお話が２人に負けないくらい深い内容のものでした。

The music I enjoyed yesterday was as excellent as the one last year and the story by the coordinator from Hokkaido was also filled with thoughtful ideas of Mongolian history. 

人と自然の関係、人はどう生きるべきかなど、毎日忙しく時間に追われテクノロジーの発達しすぎた日本で生きる私たちが考えさせられる内容のものでした。

About the relationship between Human being and Nature and how we should live as a human being, he told us while explaining how Mongolian people live.   Many Japanese people spend life restlessly everyday surrounded by rapidly advanced technology.  I thought a lot of things listening to him.

今日、市民塾主宰で馬頭琴のコンサートを２か所で開催します。馬頭琴とはモンゴルの伝統的な楽器ではるばるモンゴルから２人の奏者と北海道からその二人のコーディネーターの方が来られます。一つめが終わりこれからメイシアターで第２弾が始まるとことです。

Mothers’ Power-up Group hold “Bato-kin” concerts today.  Batou-kin means a horse head string.  It’s a traditional Mongolian instrument.   Two Mongolian musicians and a Japanese teacher came over here.  The first one finished about one hour ago and the other one is going to start from 2:30 at Maytheater, in front of Hankyu Suita station.

メイシアターでのコンサート終了後、私の家の近くの自治会館で打ち上げをします。私は豚汁担当で３０人分を作ります。午前中買い物に行ってきたのですがあまりの材料の重さに自転車がふらつくほどでした。

After the concert, we are going to have a party at a town’s hall near my house.   I am in charge of cooking “Ton-jiru”, a miso soup with pork, salmon and a lot of vegetables in.   I have to prepare it for 30 people.   In the morning, I went shopping and as there were tons of foods I bought, it was difficult to ride on my bicycle.

前と後ろのかごとハンドルにも荷物をかけていたので、それと今日はとっても風が強く途中で食パンが前のかごからぽ～ん！何と飛び出してしまいました。もう少しで自転車のタイヤでひくところがぎりぎりセーフ！なんとかブレーキをかけられたんだけどこんなところ誰かに見られていたら・・・

I put shoppings bags both in my front basket and the back one and also I hang one around the handlebars of my bicycle, and it was so windy today that a loaf of bread in the shopping bag jumped up to the air and fell on the road.   I almost run over it with my bicycle’s tire.   I was embarassed to pick it up.

それでは今から作りに行ってきます。馬頭琴の音色楽しみです。

Then I’ll go now to prepare ”Ton-jiru”.　I can’t wait for listening the beatiful tone by “Batou-kin”.　　

今日私が所属する市民塾「お母さんパワーアップ塾」のミーティングがありました。

I participated in the meeting of “Mothers’ Power-Up Group”, a city group subsidized by Suita city.

３月２日（日）に今年度の活動発表会がありその準備をしました。当日は８つの市民塾が活動報告とそれぞれの催し物を考えています。

On the 2nd of March, 8 city groups are going to have  presentations about their activities throughout the fiscal 2007.   And also each group has a boose to do its own event.

私たちはメンバーが着物を着てお茶を点て、来ていただいた人達にお菓子と一緒にふるまいます。 展示パネルも用意して１年間の活動内容を写真とともに展示します。

What we are going to do is to serve green tea and Japanese traditional sweets to people who will visit our booth.  We will wear Kimonos.   We are going to put some pictures of our events last year so that you can see what we have done so far.

今年の３月末で一応市民塾としては卒業ですが今後の活動についても話し合いました。

We are not going to be subsidized from April, but we will continue to do various international activities so we talked about what to do hereafter at the meeting.

今年の私自身の目標として英検１級取得を掲げました。

I set a goal to get the first grade of Eiken, a test in practical English proficiency, this year.

英検１級に関してはこれまであまり興味がなく、どちらかと言えばそんな単語覚えてもどこで使うの？と半ば馬鹿にしていたところがありました。

Regarding the certificate of the first grade of Eiken, I hadn’t been interested in it for a long time.   If anything, I had even thoungt that those words that appear in the test are something we only see on newspapers or monographs and meaningless to study. 

でも、子供たちに英語を教えるようになり更にレベルアップしたいと思うようになりました。勉強会で知り合った英語の先生たちのホームページを見ていた時に英検１級をがんばって取得された方のホームページにたどり着き、触発されたのがきっかけで私も頑張ってみようと思いました。まあ、もともと単純な性格なのですぐ影響されます。

Since I started to teach English to kids, I’ve met a lot of other teachers at seminars and I’ve come to think I want to improve my English more.   And when I was watching at some of the teachers’ website, I found a blog by someone who worked hard to get Eiken, the first grade.   I was influenced by the blog and decided to take the certificate as this year’s goal.

そのブログを書いていた人が英検１級取得講座を開設するということで早速申し込みました。

And in the blog,  it is said that she would open the class for Eiken.  And I applied for it.

来週の月曜日からスタートします。

The class will start from next monday.

課題がたっぷりあるとのことですが途中で挫折しないように頑張りたいと思います。

She informed me that there would be a lot of assignment, so I want to do my best.

昨日私が受講している「ジャズチャンツ指導者養成講座」の勉強会があり出席してきました。

I participated in a lecture for Jazz Chants trainee course yesterday. 

いつもながら発表された先生方のレッスンプランに刺激を大いに受けて私も頑張ろうと、パワーをたくさんもらいながら帰ってきました。

As usual, I was stimulated by all the teachers’ presentations.  Each lesson plan was filled with enjoyable and thoughtful ideas.   I got power from those teachers and I want to reflect it to my lessons.

ジャズチャンツは言うまでもなく英語のリズムをとても大事にしていてそれこそが私たち日本人に立ちはだかる大きな壁であったりします。

In Jazz Chants,  English rhythm is regarded as the most important element.  And that thythm could be sometimes the biggest obstacle for Japanese people to overcome.

日本語と違い英語には他の単語と比べて強く発音されるもの、また読むスピードも速く流すようにして読む単語とそうでないものがあります。

Unlike Japanse sentences, English sentences have words that are pronounced stronger than others  and the spoken speed is also different from word to word.

日本語と英語の構造が根本的に違うので私たちが発音に苦労するのは仕方がありません。

Language structures of Japanese and English are basically different so we have some troubles in speaking English.

そこでやはり訓練するしかないのです。ジャズチャンツを勉強すると楽しみながらそれを勉強することができるのです。

Therefore, we need to train it.   I believe that Jazz Chants is the best way to learn it.
